Isla Catalina - Catalina Island
Today I want talk about my trip to Catalina Island which is classified as a Natural Monument, and it is one of the islands in the Eastern National Park (Dominicacn Republic). It's tiny, just about 9.6 km2, has no permanent population but has a security staff for protection.
We arrived to La Romana port and take our transportation to the island. Hop on in a catamaran and take a swim in the Caribbean Sea warm turquoise waters, very cool! but if you are adventurous I recommend you to do diving or snorkeling. I decided to go snorkeling, getting your head into the water and see that beauty, was awesome, full of colorful fish, sponges, skeletons and living corals and only a few meters deep.It was all a show of color and beauty!
Catalina Island is the only place in Dominican Republic where you can easily find raccoons and wild hares, although they are invasive species they are considered exotic in the tropics. For me this was a pleasant surprise because you can easily photograph the raccoons, but they remain at a safe distance. They come out in the evening searching for food.
Of course the virgin beaches also spectacular with fine white sand, palms, definitely a beautiful place to spend a nice day with your family or friends and take lots of pictures like me.
There is no hotel, but has facilities to provide food, soft drinks and various amenities for all day.
Excursions to Catalina Island leave from the marina of La Romana. The tour includes transportation to the island, entertainment and drinks on board, equipment for snorkeling, the entrance to the island, lunch and drinks on the island. The only thing I didn't like of the trip was the lunch so I recommend bringing your own food or pack a picnic.
A experience full of tropic's freshness, crystal blue beaches lined with coconut trees and sun.
